This is not a glamour project. It is not boudoir. It has no set or stylist or concept handed down from above.

Private Moments is a study of women in their own worlds — the chair they always sit in, the window they drift toward, the coffee cup they hold without thinking. The book they set down. The light that finds them when nobody is supposed to be watching.

I know it looks like the same sexy photos. But look closer. One woman brings stillness. Another brings fire. One knows exactly where she is in the frame, another forgets the camera is even there. The black and white strips everything else away so all you're left with is her — whoever she is that day. That's what I'm after. Not a look. A person.

And the photos can't be posed or contrived. I need to catch something real — a moment that could've come from her Tuesday afternoon, her Sunday morning, the quiet in between. If it looks like it was set up, I missed it.

Sometimes there's makeup, sometimes not. If there is, it's soft — it enhances, it doesn't perform. What she wears matters less than how she wears herself.

The shape of a room tells me something. The way she picks up a coffee cup, a book, a phone. Whether she's lost in thought or just arrived back from it. A chair by a window. A chaise. A bed. A table with afternoon light cutting across it. These are the spaces where a woman is most herself — where she might look vulnerable to someone stumbling in from the outside, but she isn't. Not really. She's at her most powerful, because she's at her most comfortable. Most at home. Most true.

I've been working in this vein for years. The images exist as individual posts on Creatively Bare, but the larger vision has always been a book — a series of Seraphina, of April, of Claire, of Nadia, of whoever shows up and trusts the process. Women I've photographed once and women I've returned to a dozen times. Women on islands and in high-rise apartments and in stone houses on hillsides overlooking the sea.

That book is still being made.
